Buying A Slave
From the early 15th century, to the late 19th century, whites could buy blacks as their property, as their slaves. To think that the complexion of your pigment determined weather you worked, or got served. The picture to the left, is a white man buying a slave, as you can see, the slaves were not given much clothing to cover up.
How were slaves treated?
The law stated back then, that slave owners had the right to do whatever they wanted with their property. In some regions, especially in the Deep South, it was considered acceptable to:
•Chain
•Whip
•Rape
•And even kill their property

Although some slave owners provided decent working conditions, and treated their slaves humanly, don’t go thinking life as a slave was easy, because it wasn't, and most slave owners could care less about their slaves health and feelings. Blacks could not testify against whites, so most of the time, “horrible crimes against humanity” went unpunished. Part of the problem was, many slave owners did not consider their slaves, people. They were more like livestock to them.
